Daft Punk Returns!

th

Life is a journey and, at times, it is in need for a soundtrack. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, otherwise known as DAFT PUNK have been creating that soundtrack with their beats and melodies for years.

Except actually creating a soundtrack for a movie – TRON: Legacy Soundtrack – DAFT PUNK had not released a LP since 2005 with “Human After All”. On May 21st 2013, “Random Access Memories” will be released with no current plans of a tour to support the album.

With all of the social media platforms to promote things, they have been going “old school” by releasing teaser clips as by the way of tv commercials. Although now you can find these clips online, the latest and newest had been recently aired during SNL and features their latest single “Get Lucky” which features Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers, along with Daft Punk themselves, in sequined suits.

The TV spot is featured below. Below that, is an extended version of of “Get Lucky” which if i can say so as a long-time fan since their first album “Homework”, the song is awesome! They bring a new style of disco-funk while keeping the traditional Daft Punk rhythm and style. I can’t wait for May 21st! If you can’t wait ’til then, you can pre-order the album thru Amazon.com.

Let It Be…Naked: The Podcast

Itunes Store has added “Let It Be…Naked”. Now, Rolling Stone Magazine has announced that there will be a series of 5 podcasts that will go into detail on the recording of the album.
The last studio album released by The Beatles was not released in the form they wanted. The original “Let it Be” was released with the orchestral flourishes of record producer (and convicted murderer) extraordinaire Phil Spector.
In 2003 Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr released a stripped down version of the album with the added “…Naked” to the album’s title. The former Beatles released the version of the album they originally wanted. Enjoy this video of The Beatles during the “Let It Be” recording sessions.

RIP Roger Ebert

Legendary film critic Roger Ebert has died at the age of 70. Mr.Ebert, along with his late partner Gene Siskel, taught me that movies could be appreciated as much more than simple moving pictures on a screen. In the days before anyone could publish their movie review on-line there were few movie critics who earned the trust of the movie going public.  Roger Ebert ranked at the very top of respected and well known movie critics. In 1975, Mr. Ebert was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for journalism.

In 1986 Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert (they were both film critics for rival Chicago newspapers) began their eponymous television show in which their thumbs became almost as famous as they did.  Those were the days when the phrase “Siskel & Ebert give it two thumbs up!” was enough to drive millions of movie goers to their local cineplex.  After the death of Gene Siskel, Ebert continued the show with Richard Roeper but they never achieved the same chemistry or influence of the great Siskel & Ebert.

Thank you Mr. Ebert. I’m sure that wherever you are Siskel will be saving the seat next to him. Rest in peace.

“The bong in your reggae song…”

Rolling Stone magazine is reporting that The Breeders will re-issue their seminal alt-rock classic Last Splash April 2013. If you’ve only heard “Cannonball” you owe it to yourself to listen to the rest of the album, I recommend “Saints” as an excellent starting point. In many ways The Breeders, and especially Last Splash delivered on the pop music promises that The Pixies strayed away from with Trompe Le Monde and Bossanova.
To mark the 20th anniversary of Last Splash The Breeders will be embarking on a tour (no southern California dates have been announced yet) and reissuing the album as a box set that includes an earlier EP, live tracks, and rarities.
To keep up to date with The Breeders and get information on any upcoming local dates visit their website http://www.thebreederslsxx.com.
